Prof Michael Mahmoudi

I studied medicine at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine where I was awarded distinctions in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and neurology. I undertook junior doctor training in cardiology at the Wessex Deanery, Cambridge, and the Washington Hospital Centre (DC, USA).

Having spent two years as an Interventional Cardiology Fellow in Washington DC, I returned to the UK first as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Cambridge and then as Senior Lecturer in Cardiological Sciences and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Surrey. In 2016 I could no longer resist the allure of the South coast and re-joined the cardiology team at Southampton.

My areas of clinical interest include coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease with a special focus on catheter-based techniques for treating mitral and tricuspid valve disorders, chemotherapy-induced heart disease, and alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Outside medicine, my family and I are passionate Hellenophiles and try to spend as much time as possible travelling across Greece.
