Having completed her medical training in India, Ms Chandran has been practicing in the UK for the past 18 years. She has a specialist interest in retinal diseases and cataract surgery but also manages Emergency and General Ophthalmology. Her clinical expertise includes intravitreal therapeutic procedures, cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses, and laser surgery involving both the anterior and posterior segments, including the retina and vitreous.
Currently, she serves as the Clinical Lead for the Ophthalmology Department, where she has successfully spearheaded several innovative projects, including the establishment of the Cataract Surgery Hub at Heatherwood. Additionally, she holds the prestigious role of Regional Clinical Lead for the Southeast, collaborating closely with NHS England to enhance ophthalmic services across the region. She has played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the High-Volume Cataract Surgery (HVLC) pathway in the region. Manju has also been instrumental in digitalising the cataract surgery pathway using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, an initiative that earned her the Highly Commended HSJ Award.
Beyond clinical practice, Ms Chandran is deeply passionate about education and mentorship. Her commitment to training the next generation of Ophthalmologists has earned her widespread respect in the academic community, culminating in her recognition as the Best Trainer Award recipient in 2022. Her contributions to Ophthalmology have also been acknowledged through the National Clinical Excellence Award.
Manju is an active member of the VISION 2020 programme, playing a crucial role in diabetic retinopathy training and teaching initiatives in Zambia and St. Lucia.
