Mr. Ngwe Phyo

Professional Profile

Mr. Ngwe Phyo is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Surrey, with a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery. He completed his higher surgical training in 2020 and was appointed to his current consultant post in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at Frimley Park Hospital.

Mr. Phyo is an active orthopaedic member of the Diabetic Foot Multidisciplinary Team, where he plays a key role in the assessment and surgical management of patients with complex diabetic foot disease, including Charcot foot reconstruction and diabetic lower limb reconstruction.

Training & Education

Mr. Phyo graduated from the Institute of Medicine (1), Yangon, Myanmar in 2002. He undertook his basic surgical training in Truro, Cornwall, before completing his orthopaedic registrar training at Frimley Park Hospital.

He is fellowship-trained in foot and ankle surgery, and diabetic foot reconstruction. His subspecialty fellowships were undertaken at Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot, King’s College Hospital in London, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He also completed a visiting fellowship at Mein Fusszentrum in Basel, Switzerland, under the supervision of Dr. Markus Knupp, where he gained additional expertise in complex hindfoot and ankle reconstruction.

Research & Publications

Mr. Phyo has a strong commitment to academic surgery and has published numerous peer- reviewed papers on foot and ankle surgery and diabetic foot disease. His research interests include the management of heel ulcers, acute severe foot infections, and complex lower limb fractures in patients with systemic disease.

He has lectured both nationally and internationally on foot and ankle surgery and trauma- related topics. He also serves as the lead for Clinical Governance within his department.

Mr. Phyo is a member of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) and the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA).
