Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Recovery Practitioner to join our theatre team. The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse (RGN) or operating department practitioner (ODP) with experience in post-anaesthetic care. You will be responsible for monitoring patients as they recover from anaesthesia and surgery, ensuring they receive high-quality, safe, and responsive care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, effective, and evidence-based post-anaesthetic care to patients in the recovery area

  • Monitor vital signs, manage airways, and address any post-operative complications promptly

  • Administer prescribed medications, including pain relief and anti-emetics

  • Collaborate with the anaesthetist, surgical team, and wider clinical staff to ensure seamless patient care

  • Prepare recovery bays and equipment in accordance with hospital protocols and infection control standards

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records

  • Support patients and families with clear communication and reassurance during the recovery phase

  • Participate in audits, training, and quality improvement initiatives within the department


Requirements

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse (RGN) with NMC registration or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with HCPC registration

  • Proven experience in recovery or post-anaesthesia care

  • Sound clinical knowledge and ability to respond to changing patient conditions

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certified; ALS (Advanced Life Support) desirable

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • High attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure

Desirable:

  • ILS or ALS

  • Experience in a private hospital or independent sector

  • Knowledge of CQC standards and evidence of contributing to good outcomes in previous roles
